I'll be making some changes to Uglek within the next few days. I have created a new version of the site, this one in Django, which seems to be a more reliable solution which I think should work well. It's also a nicer looking site.
Unfortunately, the new site won't have all the users, posts and icons it currently has. I'll be sending out an email asking users to create new accounts and join the site again. This time there will be an extra verification step requiring you to verify your email before logging in and using the site. This step is to help keep the site only useable by real people like you and me.
The new site should be easier to use and has the same features, with a few added features and a smoother layout. I'm excited to share it with you, I think you will really like what I have and I look forward to seeing you there. Thanks for being active on this site even though I'm still getting it set up!

Being as I added titles to posts, I need to make a change to some of the existing titles to make this work well. Titles need to be less than 70 characters to be optimized. I will be adding titles to most of the longer posts to make them search-engine-ready, and I have already done some of this. You may notice this is causing posts to get out of order, not to worry, this will only affect some of the posts.
Actually, further looking into this I discovered there is a good way to add titles without having to make them on the first line only. To do this, I used an if statement checking if the length of the first line, the title, is 70 characters or under. If it's not, use text.rsplit(' ', 1) and the first 67 characters of the line followed by ... in the title. This takes all but the last word of a string that's too long for a title and then adds ... to the end of it. This keeps titles under 70 characters and they don't need to be separated from the rest of the content. However, if you don't want a "..." to show up at the end of your post, use a title on the first line 70 characters or under. Also, note that the description is recognized as the second line.

I have been fixing some issues with the site
The most important fix I made was in the sitemap, I had to change a URL prefix /post/ to /view/, which I didn't realize previously was my URL syntax. I now have the site resubmitted to google for indexing, however, so hopefully, some of the articles will get indexed. I'm going to submit some manually for indexing as well. I also added titles to the /view/ page, and I've been updated posts so there is a <70 character title on the first line. I also updated the site so descriptions are on the second line, so the pages are better optimized for SEO. Now you should be able to write articles here that rank in search results.
Please let me know what you think of the changes, you can message me at https://uglek.com/message/inte...

I noticed I missed a few icons when I added icons to the site earlier today.
I think I added all of them now, the user icon to the comments and messages and a search icon to the search button. I also fixed the follow/unfollow icon, which required turning the input into a button. All the hard work has paid off, however, and now the site has beautiful icons. I used icons for most of the buttons save for submit buttons on forms, which are a little more involved to add icons to. I think those can stay as they are for now though, I'm not worried about them. Overall I think the site is looking really good, I'm ready to add more content and implement more features every day. One feature I want to implement is a group feature that allows users to join and post in private groups. I'm always looking to add more features too.

I made a useful fix to the navbars compact layout today. I had tried to do this previously but I couldn't get it working, and I found the code on StackOverFlow.com to get it working. Now the button appears attached to the search field, and not below it on mobile. This makes for a really sleek layout that I think is better looking than it was before. I also updated the Favicon to the new logo and added a new Apple Touch icon, so if you have the site saved on your device you'll see the icon now.
I've been mostly developing the site on the production server and testing it as I go, but I'm going to do some work developing the site on my local computer because I want to add more complex features. When I add groups, they will be closed and moderated sections of the site open by invite and request. Invites will go through messages and only users who are invited or accepted into a group will be allowed to post and send messages to the group. Group posts and messages will be viewable in a /group/ page followed by the group name.

You can now view random posts and random users! This will be useful for finding content and users when the site has more to it. You can click the links towards the bottom of the about page (https://uglek.com/about), or go to https://uglek.com/random for a random post. https://uglek.com/randomuser takes you to a random user's profile too. I'm going to implement more fun and useful features like this in the near future. I want to make this website feature-rich so I can expect good user retention, with low bounce rates, lots of page views, and high session duration.
Let me know if there are any other features you would like to see on the website! You can comment below, or send me a message. I'm happy to add anything people would be interested in using that won't interfere with the user experience of the site.

Today I made some changes to the UI of Uglek. I added glyph icons from Bootstrap to the navbar and buttons across the site, which will hopefully make the site easier to use and navigate. I also updated the likes and comments indicator so this is a little bit easier to read now. The navbar looks much nicer and so do the pages in my opinion, as it's better to have something more than just text on all of the buttons to guide the user. Now it's easy to remember which button is which because they are accompanied by a simple, readable icon.

I have made some useful changes to Uglek. Now you can delete messages, with a delete button on each message in your inbox and a confirm delete page. As well as this, I changed the register page so it will automatically log you in when you sign up, no need to put in your password again. I have also made fixes to the way users are deleted, with all of their messages, posts and comments deleted whenever a user is deleted. I won't delete a lot of users, but it's important to have a good user deletion system for keeping spam off of the site. Now I can keep the site spam-free in just a few clicks, instead of having to delete each post, user, and comment. Please let me know if you see spam on the site and it isn't removed promptly, I will tend to this and remove any posts that violate our rules. It seems lately there have been some spam posts in Russian, I'm not sure what that's about, but all suspicious posts and users are removed from the site for the time being.
I'm starting to build up quite a large database of posts and users, and I hope more people will join in the near future. Currently, not a lot of ads are showing on the site, but I will serve more ads within the next month or so as I post more content to the site. Yesterday, the site had 355 page views according to Google AdSense, so hopefully, these should be worth something. I think this is really good considering my previous site had nowhere near this many pageviews, despite my working hard on the site. This site is a lot more engaging though, so I see why it is more popular. Users can be more interactive and there's more to see on the site.
I have even more photos from my travels I am going to share here, with captions so you know what the photos are about. These are from travels in Washington, around Europe, and in Alaska. I'll also share about my college work, as I am going back to school soon online. I'll be taking classes in computer science, English, math, and more to get a degree in the computer science field. I want to work with computers in my future, and I already have a lot of experience and projects working with computers, and I would like to get more experience. That's why I'm going to go back to school.
Music is great, but I still want to get a degree and have a day job until I am ready to fully support myself from my music. I haven't been working for the past few months, and have been relying on savings and income from my music to support me, but I will be working again soon. Unfortunately, this means I will have less time to spend on this website and on making music. I'm not going to stop making music or posting here though. I am still going to build my online presence and work hard to make this a great place to enjoy new content.
